KC Beckons the Islanders

March 3rd, 2009

The Long Island Business News is the latest outlet to mention Kansas City as the pawn in the Islanders’ negotiation with the city of Hempstead.
As Isles wrap up losing season, Kansas City beckons

A couple interesting notes in this article.

Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News says that Charles Wang, the Islanders’, um, interesting, owner will not be in a position to sell any time soon,

“And Charles Wang would be better off waiting to sell anyway, because there aren’t many financial institutions in a position to finance such a sale. Down the road, you would hope, there will be.”

The other thing I find interesting in this article is that while Kennedy thinks that our fair city is next on the relocation list, Murray Brown of who runs the Business of Sports Network he doesn’t believe that KC would be a good NHL market,

“It is entirely possible that the Kansas City market is already saturated with the Chiefs and the Royals,” Brown said.

My thoughts.

Right now, we’re just a pawn in this game between Charles Wang and the city of Hempstead. And, because of the lease, it’s not going to happen for the 2009-10 season.
