Atlanta Spirit, the group that owns the Atlanta Thrashers, say the franchise is not relocating.
Atlanta was mentioned as an NHL franchise that may relocate to Kansas City. Of course, they were mentioned with no substantiation whatsoever. Someone just threw their name out there.
Atlanta Spirit says it has no plans to move teams
Remember, I’ve mentioned this several times on this blog, Atlanta Spirit also operates the Phillips Arena. Ownership groups who also operate the arena in which the team plays would be very hesitant to move to an arena in which they will not control all (or most of) the arena revenue. Sprint Center is operated by AEG and will not be operated by an ownership group interested in moving to KC.
This point seems to never, ever get mentioned by those who say an NHL (or NBA) franchise may come to KC.
