Yet, the KC media puts stock in NHL21's comments, which also come without sources.

I'm going to go with the guy who once worked for the Islanders. My guess is he has pretty decent sources.

I wouldn't put too much stock the Chris Botta interview. He neither mentioned any sources nor did he even state that he had a source for his comments -- no "according to my sources."
Considering that he is from Long Island (see link), his adamant comments seem to be "as a fan" than "as a reporter" and by "fan", he could be a fan of the Islanders or in the general sense of being a fan of NY sports teams.

http://gocaribbean.about.com/od/culturesandpeople/a/ChrisBottabio.htm

And BTW, Botta seemed to imply that he was talking about where Wang would move the team; but not where the team would be moved to if it changed ownership.

That is not to say that I think that it is likely since there no potential owner wanting to move an NHL team to KC -- unless there is one who is keeping his intentions of doing so private.

Of course in Kansas City, the local elite would rather spend $400 million on aping the Sydney Opera House then spend $400 million on an NHL/NBA and save almost half.

As much as I would love to have an NHL team here in KC it won't and shouldn't be any time soon. Hockey has to grow here first, and it is. The Mavericks had 3rd best attendance in the CHL behind two of the top teams in the league. There are high school and pee-wee hockey teams here now. We're moving in the right direction, but slowly. The best thing you can do as an individual is go out and support the hockey that's here now.

KC's Stanley Cup ratings up 140% from last year. May have a little something to do with Chicago transplants, but I think there are just as many Red Wings fans here as Hawks fans.

And, on the issue of radio stations, I think if an AHL/NHL team were to come here, I think games would be broadcast on FM. Probably 98.9. Just my 2 cents.

Only eight AHL teams had average attendance that exceeded the Independence Events Center's capacity.
<a href="http://theahl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance&season_id=30" rel="nofollow">2009-2010 AHL attendance</a>

Sprint Center may be too big for an AHL franchise, however an AHL team would be an anchor tenant. The team's 41 home games would draw more than 200,000 additional bodies to the P&L district, including at least 5,000 on a weeknight. Ever been to P&L on a Tuesday? I'm sure the businesses would appreciate the additional traffic.
AEG was willing to have an indoor football team in Sprint Center before the league folded and indoor football is minor league.

I think Kansas City is in an undesirable limbo. Unless the arena in Independence is expanded to 8,000 seats, I can't see an AHL team in the area. Remember that the Blades had headaches with Kemper because it was too big. But, the market is too crowded for an NHL to be viable. Either way, we're screwed.

Why would Bill Daly have any say? Bill Daly works for the NHL. The World Juniors is an <a href="http://www.iihf.com/home-of-hockey/championships.html" rel="nofollow">IIHF</a> event. It would be up to USA Hockey, as a sanctioned member of the IIHF, to submit the application. USA Hockey would have to have that stipulation and I find no evidence as such.

The NHL is not a member of the <a href="http://www.iihf.com/iihf-home/the-iihf/members.html" rel="nofollow">IIHF</a>.
