Yes, I first heard about that in 2011 about three months after the former Ice Midwest closed. Last January, I got confirmation that someone was looking into it very seriously. Things seem to be looking up.

I hope January 18, 2011, when I announced that Ice Midwest was closed as an ice facility for good, was rock bottom.

Good points. They are totally lost on the people of KC who are “trying” to bring an NHL team here. You have to start from the ground floor and the ground floor is getting more rinks so youth (and adults for that matter) have a place to experience the game.

if they were really thinking they would use a Goethermal kind of power. hate to say it but the price of the pump engine is only going to go up. they should ride out the inflation and keep the rink running !!

The KC Speedskating club is in. The more ice the more area to grow the better keep us up to date at KCSpeedskating.org or on facebook KC Speedskating. Also Im looking for help to build a 400m track here in KC. If you have any idea how to write up business plans and look for grants please contact me at czrymtman@yahoo.com I have great ideas how to really make money on a big frozen track .. I have lived all over the country and traveled much the numbers of ice skaters in this town I always find shocking and amazing!!!

I totally agree with your statement that in order to have a “real” NHL city we need youth involvement. I am originally from St Louis, in KC for college, and back home the amateur hockey scene is very strong. We have many area rinks and dozens of youth hockey clubs, every girl/women leagues. Not including our high school league, which I have personally played in, midstates hockey (http://www.midstateshockey.org/) which has over 40+ area high school clubs, and whose championship game is played in front of thousands at the scottrade center in st Louis (blues home ice) which is televised on Fox Sports Midwest. Most of our regular season games (high school hockey mind you) drew crowds of 400+ (our fans not including other teams) on school nights. I played for Oakville Hockey club; with Pat Maroon a current mighty duck (NHL) and have other friends who have played in all various college/minor leagues. I personally believe that hockey does have a shot in KC, but in order to grow the sport and gain status as a real hockey town we must grow amateur hockey in KC. Until we have a NHL team in KC… LET’S GO BLUES!!!!!!!! Playoffs 2012.

You mention Okun Fieldhouse in relation to Kemper or Hale for indoor sports. As an example of the outdoor sports (“soccer/lacrosse/football/rugby fields”), just look at the Overland Park Soccer Complex. That has something going on (tournament, league play, lacrosse, etc.) practically every weekend! I would argue that these facilities are successful because they are NOT in Kansas City, and they were built with community use in mind. But, that’s beside the point.

It’s sad, not just because Kemper and the American Royal have some historic value, but, because, like you allude to, they are usable buildings that just sit there, doing nothing to very little. AEG won’t repurpose it. The city won’t repurpose it. So, it’s kind of like finding an NHL owner that wants to put a team in the Sprint Center. Who wants to do it?

Oh, also, good ideas aren’t allowed within Kansas City city limits. I think there is a law somewhere that says that or something…

Your point? You basically reinforce everything that I say here. No potential owner has EVER bragged about it. AEG did, but they aren’t a potential owner since they already own the Kings.

Forget about KC guys,

Owners doesn’t want another American fiasco, why then bother taking another huge and blind chance by putting the team in a market where you just don’t know if it will be successful. No potential owner’s been openly bragging about it anyway, a *MAJOR* reason why KC is not even on the list, don’t you think ?

For many reasons, Quebec is playing it Winnipeg’s way right now, and its likely sealed. So, any other destination at this moment is a bit of a DREAM. Another Canadian team will help big time with those crazy fans that will fight to get the last available ticket.

If its not sealed yet, it’ll be official within the owners…a quick voting on it by the All-Star game week-end will do the do.
